James Taylor died from wounds on 13th September, 1914, after having been sent to a base hospital in the west of France but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 1st East Surrey battalion was part of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, that had been in France since the beginning of the war and after the opening battles at Mons and Le Cateau had. along with the rest of the BEF, retreated to the River Marne. |
